Do you understand resolution?
Too many CCTV digital recorder & IP camera manufacturers publish figures that users don't understand.
(or they do not want them to understand)
At Tecton, we receive a lot of telephone calls from people asking for 4CIF resolution.
Below are two pictures. Both are 4CIF images. Take a look and see which you prefer.

You probably chose Picture 1.
The difference between the pictures is due to the amount of image compression that has been applied. Both pictures are 4CIF , but clearly, they're not the same quality. Fine details are obviously lost!
The next time you speak to a DVR or IP camera manufacturer, and they try to palm you off, telling you they offer 4CIF images, ask them how much compression they're using, or better still, ask them for a figure in TV Lines. If you don't get a straight answer, walk away, you're being conned...
